History

The Shepherd Center provides compassion, basic support, and assistance to those in our community who need it most.  We focus on families, the elderly, the homeless, and others in need. In 1974, a small group of concerned citizens came together to help their impoverished neighbors with basic essentials such as food, clothing, and shelter. These volunteers worked tirelessly to alleviate the cycles of poverty that devastated generation after generation in their community. From this humble beginning, the Shepherd Center has grown into a cornerstone for families and individuals who find themselves in crisis. Our programs reach more than 3,000 clients each year, and include a food pantry, community kitchen, family services, mentoring, job training, and referrals to community partners.

In February, 2016, the Shepherd Center purchased of the 33,000 sq ft building, located at 304 S Pinellas Avenue in Tarpon Springs.
